US Declaration of Independence, July 4th 1776
This blog is 220 years after the actual event!
Thomas Jefferson is generally credited with drafting the US Declaration of Independence. However large parts of the US Declaration were extemporised from the Scots Declaration of Arbroath of 6th April 1320.
Not surprising as two Scots learned men – James Wilson and the Rev John Witherspoon – helped draft it....... Even the preamble railing against King George is a copy of the Scots preamble railing against King Edward! James Wilson and John Witherspoon figuratively put their heads on the block with the other founding fathers by signing the Declaration.
